F.A.Q.

Frequently Asked Questions

What do you grow at The Berry Patch?

Do I need an appointment to come pick?

  • No you sure don’t! Just come on out during normal business hours!
  • However, we always recommend checking the picking report prior to coming out to ensure the picking is good so you aren’t disappointed when you come.

How much do the berries cost?

  • You-pick berries are $4.95lb
  • Pre-picked blueberries are $5.95/lb

What should we wear?

  • In general, we recommend wearing whatever is comfortable! You will be outside in a large field of 5-8 foot tall bushes, the rows are weeded and have mulch, and the paths between the rows are mowed grass. Many people wear flip flops, sandals, etc., but usually we recommend sneakers!
  • The patches are in full sun (just how blueberries like it!), so wear something you will be cool in, and hats are always a bonus.

What should we bring with us?

  • Most important things to remember are: sunscreen and bug spray! The sun is brutal sometimes, and the bugs can be just as bad! Avoiding chiggers and mosquitoes with a big bottle of Off! or your favorite bug spray, and protecting yourself from the sun with high SPF sunscreen is strongly recommended. We sell sunscreen and bug Spray in the store in case you forget!
  • Water bottles can be purchased in our store,  but we recommend bringing water with you to take to the fields so you stay hydrated. Please make sure to drink lots of water while out in the sun!

What CAN we bring with us?

  • Picnics, food, drinks, just about anything! Please leave your alcoholic beverages at home, as we are a family oriented operation, but otherwise you can bring any food or drink you would like!
  • Picnic tables are available all over the playground and the store-front area for snacking, lunching, etc.

What activities are available?

    • You-pick blueberries
    • Pre-picked blueberries
    • Fun center for the kids
    • Country store
    • Bakery

Do I need to bring a container to pick into?

    • Nope! We supply buckets lined with bags so when you’re done picking you simply pull the bag out of the bucket and you’re ready to go!

Can I bring my dog with me?

    • We love our furry friends and yours too, however, we ask that you please leave pets at home. We have many farm animals on the premise and do not want to risk any animals being harmed.

What is your normal blueberry picking season?

    • Usually between mid June to mid August

Are you open when the blueberries are not in season?

    • Yes! We are open year around with our Off-Season hours! During the off-season we sell frozen pre-picked blueberries, frozen baked goods, any of the products in our country store, and blueberry plants.

On that note, do you sell blueberry plants?

    • Yes!
    • We have a fully stocked nursery of blueberry plants that come in a variety of sizes.
    • Prices vary based on the size of the plant (because it correlates with the size of the root ball associated with the stem).
    • Please see our Nursery page for further details and images of our plants.

Are you organic?

    • In short: No.
    • Please see our Organic Information page if you are interested in further details about our spray schedules, and why we have chosen to not be an organic grower.

Do you provide any Gluten Free Products?

    • Not at this time.

Do you allow group outings?

  • Of course!
  • We have lots of summer schools and church groups that come out each year. For groups of younger kids we provide lunch baggies for them to fill and the rate will typically be the cost of one pound of berries per child.
  • Please call ahead or email us and let us know the day you are planning to come
  • See our group outings page for more information!

How do I freeze my blueberries?

  • Ensure that the berries are not wet, and then place the bag into the freezer. They will freeze like marbles!
  • You do not need to wash them prior to putting them in the freezer, you can simply rinse with cold water when you remove the frozen berries from the bag prior to using them. This will prevent wetness and clumping while they freeze.
